The
school provides many sporting options for students, and in this area
has also had some success. In the past, the school volleyball team
achieved national success, and the girls’ basketball team won two
Senior ‘A’ All-Irelands. Football and hurling teams have
achieved great success in Cork and Munster Colleges competitions over
recent years.
Camogie
and girls’ football are offered also. Athletes are encouraged to
compete in the provincial and national athletics competitions and we
have had many individual successes over the years. The school has
scored back-to-back victories in the Cork Colleges soccer tournament.
Students are exposed to a wide range of other sports since P.E. was
introduced in the school and T.Y. students take off for an adventure
week every year. First years also get to experience watersports in
Kinsale. A very successful Sports Day is also held each year.

SMGS has a proud tradition in Gaelic games since the foundation of the school.
Our first year camogie blitz was held in Cahir Co.Tipperary. We got the bus up and had the banter. we played four games. We won 1, lost 2 and drew 1 game. It was very challenging, even though we had a brillant team. Ciara Rahilly, Meg O'Regan and Ms Martin came to coach us. Aileen Sheehan coached us in training. We had a very good goalkeeper and a very strong defence and mid forward line but somehow the other team kept getting past us. In the end we were one player down with injury but we still managed to get into the final. We lost the final but played a brillant game.
It was a great day for the first year camogie team. we are all looking forward to next years games!
