Junior Cycle.
Junior Certificate art introduces pupils to the basic skills of drawing, as well as a variety of materials and methods used in various artistic disciplines such as printmaking, painting, graphic design, batik, 3D studies and ceramics. Practical work is demonstrated in a safe and controlled environment, and a hands-on approach is encouraged once students have learned the basics. This work is assessed on both an exam and project.
Students who take this course can go on to study art at senior level.
Senior Cycle.
The senior cycle is assessed by 3 practical exams and an ‘Art, History and Appreciation’ exam.
Practical Work.
Over the course of the senior cycle, students will develop their skills to a more mature level and this will be assessed in a:
Craftwork exam (5 Hours)
Still Life Drawing (2 1\2 hours)
Life Drawing (1 hour).
Theory work (2 ½ hours)
Students must complete an Art History exam, which contains 3 essays on topics that have been covered over the course of the 2 years. These topics are Irish Art history, European Art History and Art Appreciation. As part of Art Appreciation course the students will visit the ‘National Gallery’ and ‘National Museum’ in Dublin.
We are delighted with the success of numerous past pupils that have graduated from such colleges as ‘Crawford College of Art’ Cork, ‘Limerick school of Art and Design’ Limerick, ’National College of Art and Design’ Dublin and ‘Central Saint Martins College of Art’ London.
