Scoil Mhuire gan Smal, founded in 1952
is a voluntary secondary school under the trusteeship of the Diocese
of Cloyne. Located in the village of Blarney, Co. Cork, 6 miles west of Cork city, the
school currently has a coeducational enrolment of over 400 pupils,
with a teaching staff of 35.
When the school was founded in 1952 there were two teachers and 29 pupils. In 1971 the school moved to its present location and it was further extended in 1980 and again in 1992. The current enrolment is between 400 and 500 pupils, mostly from Blarney and the surrounding area including Tower, Donoughmore, Grenagh and Whitechurch. Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál is a Catholic school but welcomes pupils
from all denominations.
Our students have achieved great success in many areas, from sporting to academic pursuits and, famously, the Young Scientist competition. Not all activities involve competing; Pupils participate in a range of other programmes throughout the year including fund raising, community work, music and drama productions, field trips and foreign exchange programmes.
