Another great day for SMGS Girls’ Basketball

Following the success of our U19 girls yesterday, our 1st and 2nd year girls were away to Colaiste na Toirbhirte, Bandon today.

1st Years:

Our first years got off to a great start with Sarah Healy opening up the scoreline for SMGS. The 1st and 2nd quarters ended and it was still a close call with SMGS only winning by 2 pts in each! Bandon put up a tough fight throughout but SMGS drove on throughout the game and displayed excellent teamwork. SMGS pulled away in the 3rd quarter with Saoirse and Michelle scoring 16 pts between the 2 of them, bringing our lead to 26 - 13.

The game finished up with a 33-21 win to SMGS! This marks the girls second win in their league to date.

Top scorers were Michelle Ugwah - 14pts and Saoirse Breen - 10 pts. Sarah Healy, Orla Humphreys and Abbie Babington also scored some lovely baskets for SMGS today.

2nd Years:

Our second years had their first game of the season today and played a great game with sheer determination.

Ciara O' Riordan drove her team on with the opening basket for our second years and kept moral up throughout the match! The girls showed great teamwork and fought hard throughout the entire game. The girls had a slow start, with the majority of their baskets being scored in the 4th quarter. 1st years Saoirse Breen and Orla Humphreys played up with our 2nd years today and scored much needed baskets for SMGS.

Unfortunately, our 2nd years lost out to Colaiste na Toirbhirte in the end, but the girls still had an enjoyable game.

Top scorers for our 2nd year game today were: Orla Humphreys - 8pts, Ciara O' Riordan - 6ptsand Saoirse Breen - 3pts.

1st and 2nd year girls' basketball matches will be continuing after the mid-term break.

Very well done to all girls for their teamwork and commitment shown today.
