SMGS Hurling/Football Update

Well done to the Boys Football Team who beat De La Salle in the quarter final of the U15 Munster competition today 3-8 to 1-9. They beat Rosscarbery in the last round and now await the winners of Kinsale Community School/Milltown secondary school in the semi final. Well done lads. 💪🏼

For the SMGS U14 Team, they were busy competing in a Hurling Blitz today in Blarney GAA Grounds. In SMGS’ group was Bandon and Buttevant.

In their first game SMGS beat a good Buttevant side by a score line of 4-9 to 3-2.

Next up was a fancied Bandon side with SMGS unfortunately losing out by 3 points in a final scoreline of 3-7 to 3-4.

It was a fantastic performance by all involved, especially considering all 28 players played at least a full half of hurling in both games.

SMGS Senior hurlers also had a great win in the Munster Colleges last 16 today against a very good Croom team. SMGS started very well and the full forward line of Michael O Mahony, Barry McCarthy and Callum Kelleher were causing huge problems for the Croom defence. Callum Kelleher scored a great goal following good work by Brian O Reilly, Ruiari Dennehy and O’ Michael Mahony. Cian Dunlea hurled a lot of ball in midfield and James Murphy and John Lehane we’re very solid in the half back line.

SMGS continued to have the better of it in the second half with Ruairi Dennehy, Felix Murphy and Sam O’Sullivan playing key roles.

Overall a great win by SMGS with Mark Callanan and Ed Murphy very dominant in defence and Evan McCarthy doing trojan work at midfield.
