SMGS Rugby Update
Our 1st Yrs took part in a blitz in PBC grounds last Thursday, all style in their new kit displaying our ‘promoting positive mental health’ embroidered sleeves. In the 11 a side matches the lads lost 12-5 to the home team PBC, won 24-10 against Mitchelstown and in their final game they drew 10-10 with Bantry. Some great talent on show. Well done to all.
Last Tuesday our U18s travelled to Newtown in Waterford in the preliminary rd of the Bowen Shield. The young SMGS crew battled hard throughout but the bigger more experienced Newtown lads were too strong for us. In truth our lads were never really at the same pace with some players playing out of position due to absences.
On a positive note our U19s, with many of the U18s on the same panel ! , can do no wrong as a group with 2 impressive victories under their belt in the O’Brien Cup. After beating Carrigaline at home in October their last outing was a 63-17 victory away to Waterpark. They now have a home semifinal in the near future against Patrician Academy, Mallow.
Training continues (weather permitting) on Tuesday evenings from 3:45-4:50pm for Junior players.
We also have our old Jnr jerseys on sale for €10-€15 each.
