SMGS Rugby

After what seemed an eternity without a competitive match,  the U19 squad finally took to the 1st pitch in Muskerry RFC today to take on Newtown from Waterford in the QF of the O’Gorman Shield.

With the aid of a strong breeze SMGS started well, constantly putting pressure on the opposition building phase after phase and took an early lead. They kept going and went in at halftime leading 18-0

An early try by Newtown in the 2nd half settled the away side and they started to come into the game. However SMGS played the conditions perfectly, starving Newtown of the ball and over the next 20 mins three further wellworked tries pushed the Blarney lads out of reach.

An outstanding display by this talented squad, where all subs came off the bench to get into the action.

Final score

SMGS 35 Newtown 10
