SMGS Rugby

Disappointment for our Giles Shield team who drew with Killorglin today 12-12 but lost on the first try rule.

5-0 down at half time with both defenses dominating the play, SMGS started the 2nd half well but a lapse in concentration left Killorglin in for another try which was converted leaving the score 12-0.

Another gear was found by SMGS who dominated the rest of the game with out half David Coleman touching down under the posts and converting his own try. Further pressure allowed winger Cian Walsh touch down in the corner. A missed conversion from a tight angle left the game tied 12-12 and in truth SMGS could have stolen it in the end but ran out of time .

A super effort by this squad in sunny Killorglin. Next up the U15s travel to take on St Caimins in Shannon next Wednesday in the McCarthy cup semi final while the U19s await their fixture away to Castleisland in the semi final of the U19 O Gorman Shield.
