Sean Crean McCarthy World Karate.
Sean McCarthy has been selected by the world karate federation and the Olympic council of Ireland to represent his country at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires this October.
TY Mini Company Charity Walk
The Transition Year Mini Company class would like to sincerely thank 1st and 4th year students who generously donated and took part in our ‘Road to Malawi’ charity walk.
First Year Outing to Ballyhass
On Friday May 11th our first year classes loaded up for a day of adventure in the Ballyhass lakes activity centre. To say it was a wet dreary morning would be an understatement! The rain was biblical. We drove through floods and hailstones but remained hopeful that the Met Eireann forecast for the day to brighten would actually materialise.
2nd Year Trip to Kilkenny
Last Friday our Second Years went back in history and visited one of Ireland’s medieval gems; Kilkenny City . Following a very wet start we arrived in Kilkenny at 11am and took a very enjoyable train journey around Kilkenny city which highlighted the key historical fortifications of the walled town as well as providing us with a commentary on Kilkenny through the ages
First Year Table Quiz
First year students took part in a table quiz on Tuesday afternoon. Fifth year Meitheal leaders which work as a support system to the First Year students, organised the quiz
All Ireland Silver Finalists 🏀🥈
Our 1st year girls did themselves, and their school very proud today. We travelled to the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght to play their semi final first against Sacred Heart Secondary School, Tullamore.
SMGS students receive visit from Pieta House
Yesterday, all the students of SMGS attended a talk from Pieta House organised by the Amber Flag Committee. Pieta House raises awareness of those affected by suicide or self harm.
Silver and Bronze Gaisce adventure
As part of the Gaisce award, students have to plan, train for and complete an outdoor Adventure Journey as part of a team. This Adventure Journey experience provides a unique, challenging and memorable experience to the students.
SMGS receive Third Green Flag
This Wednesday our Green School’s Committee was presented with their Third Green Flag for Water Conservation at a ceremony at The Radisson Blu Hotel in Little Island . Congratulations and well done to all involved.
Road to Malawi
On the 9th of May there will be a charity walk which first and fourth years will take part in . The charity walk is in aid of The Surgeon Noonan Programme . A past pupil , Ciara Costello , will be travelling to Malawi to volunteer in St. Gabriel’s Hospital .
Lord Mayor's Cup success
Success in the Lord Mayors cup today for SMGS U17 1/2 hurlers. Despite being ten points down at half time,SMGS put in a massive second half performance to draw level right at the end with a brilliant Ruairi Dennehy point.
SMGS qualify for Lord Mayor's Cup Final
Smgs played two games today in the Lord Mayors cup and qualified for next months final.
SMGS win in Maths Teachers Association Junior Competition
Alex Walsh had a great win tonight at the 1st Yr Maths Quiz held in Colaiste an Spioraid Naoimh. Competing against the best maths brains in the Cork region, our Alex took the top prize.
